Fickle Lady Luck Gets It Wrong

This post just goes to show just how Fickle Lady Luck can be. In my last post I wrote about how good old fickle Lady Luck gave her approval for me to bet on the Port Power / Fremantle game. I did that rather than betting on the Crows because it offered better odds. I should have known better. Not only did Port Power lose to Fremantle but the Adelaide Crows absolutely killed North Melbourne.

Fickle Lady Luck A Lesson Learned

Fickle Lady Luck

But I’m not pissed about losing because that game was pretty exciting, and the small wager I placed on it made it even more interesting. Then I got to thinking. Maybe Fickle Lady Luck wasn’t so fickle after all. Maybe she was telling me not to chase the match with the best odds but to follow the match where my heart was. After all she knows how much I love the Crows right?

If I had backed the Crows, I wouldn’t have won much, compared to the Port Power vs Fremantle match, but at least I would have won something. I mean, that was a brilliant game, one that put the Crows at the top of the ladder at the beginning of the season. Yeah I know they won’t stay there for long but at least they got there.  :tongue_out:

The good thing is that at least I kept to my responsible gambling rule and didn’t bet more than I can afford to lose. Doing that not only can affect me financially it would also put too much pressure on the outcome turning an exciting experience into a stressful one.

Speaking of the Crows, the AFL site’s writeup is called Walker Inspired Crows Crush Sluggish Roos. And I have to admit Walker did well, but he was’t the only one. I loved how most of the players performed including Sloane and Betts. At least that is one under Phil Walsh’s belt.

As for the Power / Fremantle game, nobody can argue that it wasn’t a thrilling game, because it was. I found that Fox Sports article to be a good one.

How did you go this weekend? Did you manage to pick a few winners? What did you think of the way Adelaide (Crows and Power) performed in the first game of the AFL season?

AFL Pick The Ladder Now Live

AFL Pick The Ladder selection

As you all know William Hill is now live, having replaced the old Sportingbet. I knew they would have some special deals in the kitty to reward members and to encourage new members to join. The first of those special offers has now been released, and it’s a little ripper too! I’m talking about their AFL Pick The Ladder promotion.

Win $100 Million In The AFL Pick The Ladder Promo

Yep, there are a lot of reasons to be excited about the AFL season being almost here and one of those is William Hills latest AFL Pick The Ladder Promo. I had a quick look at the Terms & Conditions and there are two points that I think is really interesting. The first is the second point.

2. A wager in the AFL Pick The Ladder 2015 (the Bet Type) will be a successful wager where the Client has nominated all 18 participating teams in their correct finishing order in the 2015 Toyota AFL Premiership Season Ladder as declared by the Australian Football League (AFL) at the conclusion of Round 23 (Successful Wager).

So, all you have to do to get your hands on a portion of that $100 million is to correctly predict the order of of the AFL ladder at the end of the season, That’s round 23. That’s a pretty hard ask, to get all 18 right, but the it’s worth having a punt considering how much is in the kitty.

the second interesting one is point number 8.

8. Where there is only one Successful Wager for this Bet Type, that Successful Wager will collect the AUD100,000,000 Dividend Pool. Where there is more than one Successful Wager for this Bet Type, the AUD100,000,000 Dividend Pool will be divided equally between all Successful Wagers.

That means that if you’re the only one to predict the AFL Pick The Ladder correctly you will pocket the whole $100 million!

NAB Challenge A Waste Of Time?

Nab Challenge what's the point

I’ve been thinking about the NAB challenge the last couple of days and I’ve been wondering if the whole NAB Challenge is a waste of time? Why? Because, to me, it just doesn’t feel like the AFL has their heart in it. Here’s a list of reasons why I think the NAB Challenge is a waste of time.

Why The NAB Challenge Is A Waste Of Time

Matches Are Held All Over The Place: If you have a look at the NAB Challenge fixtures for 2015 you’ll notice that a lot of the matches are being held at smaller insignificant ovals rather than the mainstream ones. Some are way out in whoop-whoop. This means a lot of the time they’re not even televised. For example, do they honestly think that footy fans are going to drive all the way to Port Lincoln to see the Adelaide vs Nth Melbourne game?

I wrote about my disappointment in not being able to watch that match on TV in my Winning Bets post.

Then there’s the Showdown between Port Power and the Crows. It’s going to be held at the old AAMI Stadium. As reported in Adelaidenow they’re doing fans an injustice by holding it there.

Port Adelaide and the Crows are going back to Football Park. Surely not. No, no, no. SA football fans do not need to be sent to a concrete bowl — that has had seats ripped out — to be reminded during a hot summer day why the game is better off at Adelaide Oval.

Watered Down Teams: It doesn’t matter which football team you support I’m sure you’ve noticed that they’re not playing their best players in the NAB Challenge matches. Can you blame them when they see that the AFL doesn’t seem to give a shit. That’s the impression I get anyway.

If they’re not fielding their best players then you’re not going to get the best games are you?

For me AFL Football is all about the crowds and the mind blowing atmosphere you get when fans get behind their teams. You just don’t get that when they play at these insignificant ovals. It’s almost like going to a SANFL game.

So, can someone out there tell me, what’s the point of having the NAB Challenge?
