Adelaide Oval AFL Dilemma

Adelaide Oval Crows

I know AAMI Stadium was a pain to get to for many people. But at least it was a dedicated AFL oval. I had reservations when I heard they were going to move all AFL matches to the Adelaide Oval. I wasn’t at all happy with the fact that they had to share it with the South Australian Cricket Association (SACA). Who would get to the last say of there was a disagreement between the AFL moguls and SACA?

Personally I would have preferred a brand new purpose built stadium to be built where they’re currently building the new Royal Adelaide Hospital. It could have been bigger, better and come with a retractable roof. Not only would it have been better for AFL but it could have been used for concerts and a lot of other venues that we’re currently missing out on.

If the Government were smart they could have collaborated with the business community. Who knows, perhaps they would have shared with the cost. It could have been a complete entertainment hub with cafes and the like around it. There could have even have been provision for extra car parks.

But no. They went the Adelaide Oval route. Don’t get me wrong, They did a brilliant job with the Adelaide Oval upgrade. No-one will argue with that. But it could have been a whole lot better. But that is neither here nor there. The Adelaide Oval is our home for AFL matches.

Adelaide Oval Limiting Crows / Power Match Training

News.com.au has just reported that the Crows are going to miss out on some Adelaide Oval training. Why? Because the oval is going to be converted into a stunt area for Nitro Circus Live on April 2nd. Stadium management say they can get the oval up to AFL standard for the Crows vs North Melbourne within the 3 days they have to complete the task. I sure hope they’re right.

“It’s always been stated by the State Government and the (Stadium Management Authority) that we want to host as many major events as possible, be that cricket, rugby, soccer, concerts or other events,’’ SMA general manager Darren Chandler told The Advertiser yesterday.

“We will always ensure that the oval is in fantastic condition for AFL matches but there may be some restriction on (AFL) training access on rare occasions.”

Again, I sure hope they can pull it off.

I understand that both the Crows and Power can train at AAMI and Alberton but wouldn’t it be better to train on the actual oval that they will be plying on? Even if it’s just a minor advantage, sometimes that could be all that is needed to convert a loss into a win.

Am I the only one who thinks this way. I know it’s too late to do anything about it now. I just needed to get it off my chest.

AFL Clash Melbourne vs Port Power

I wasn’t going to post a bet of the week this week because I couldn’t really find a sport that I wanted to place a bet on. The World Cup is over, I’m not really into darts so the World Matchplay 2014 was out. The Adelaide Crows are having a bye this week so I wasn’t really thinking about placing a bet on the AFL. That was until I saw the odds on the AFL clash between Melbourne and Port Power.

AFL Clash Bet Of The Week Because Of Great Odds

Normally the only time I watch Port Power play is if they’re playing against the Adelaide Crows. Naturally if they’re playing against AFL Clash Melbourne Port Powerthe Vics or some other Interstate teams I want the Power to win because I support South Australian teams. This is in stark contrast to the greater majority of Port Power supporters who for some reason always want the Crows to lose when playing other teams.

Anyway, while checking the odds of the different AFL games on my bet365 app I noticed some killer odds on the the AFL clash between Melbourne and Port Power.Check out the odd in the image over to the right.

You’ll notice the 8.00 odds for Melbourne which is why I backed them. You’ll will also know that I only placed a $5 wager. That’s because I’m not completely bonkers. I don’t think that Melbourne have a hope in hell winning that particular AFL clash. But then you never know. Upsets do happen.

Isn’t it funny that ever since the last Showdown where the Crows, agains’t all odds I might add, beat the Power, Port just haven’t been able to win a game. People said I was crazy to back the Crows but I did and I won the bet.

Who knows, maybe they still haven’t got their act together. Maybe Melbourne will be able create another AFL miracle. All I know is that this time I want the Power to lose and it looks like even though the Crows aren’t playing I have a AFL game to watch this weekend.

In case you want to know why I’m not backing Port Power its because of their really crappy odds of 1.08. Just checked my bet365 app again and Melbourne is now 11.00 and Power 1.05. Shit!! I wish I had placed my bet today 😀

For all you Port Power supporters I did manage to find this really cool video that I think you will enjoy. It’s I Love The Power by Nova 919’s Dylan Lewis.

Crows Win The Sunday Showdown

Crows Win First Showdown Since 2012

People said I was crazy to back the Adelaide Crows. They said that there was no way in hell that there would be an Adelaide Crows win today. But the Crows proved them all wrong and I showed them all that I was right to back the Adelaide Crows.

Adelaide Crows Win Showdown

If you remember in my last Bet Of The Week post I put money on a Crows win. Just to make things more interesting I split my bets. As you can see from the image above, if the Crows had scored just two more points I would have gotten 4 out of 4, not including the Central Districts bet. Man, you should have heard me egging the boys on in those last few minutes to try motivate them to get those extra two points. Yeah, as if they could hear me from the lounge room 😀

Check out the AFL site bet365 for Crows winto get all the match results. Suffice it to say that the Crows finally broke the Showdown drought and put themselves in contention again for a spot in the top eight.

Did I not mention in that last post that there were a few things that was present in this particular Showdown that would motivate a Crows Win!! Man, I love it when I am right.

If you remember, when I first joined bet365 I took them up on their “Up to $200 dollar deposit bonus. I deposited $100 and them matched my deposit. This win has now increased my betting pool to $212.50, even after my previous losses. Sure I could have won a lot more if I put more money on them, but that would have broken one of my important gamble responsibly rules. Only bet what you can afford to lose. This way I can enjoy my sports bets even when my sports bet does not come in.

So, who among you had the balls to back the Crows? Did having placed a bet on a Crows win make the game more exiting for you, as it did for me? Don’t be shy. Leave a comment to tell me how you went for your bet of the week. It doesn’t necessarily have to be on this game. Any sporting event that paid off for you would be fine.
