AFL Round 5 Results

I reckon its time to have a look at the AFL Round 5 results as far as Fortuna’s AFL footy tips are concerned.

AFL Round 5 Results Footy Tips & MultiBet Results

AFL Round 5 Results Footy Tips
If you read my Fortuna’s AFL Footy Tips Round 5 post you’d know that those teams in read were the teams I MultiBet Results Sportsbetselected against Fortuna’s advice. If I had followed Fortuna’s advice I would have got 8 right instead of only 5. What a bummer!  :bash:

Oh well, I suppose 5 out of 9 isn’t all that bad.

My MultiBet Results

That post also spoke about the MultiBet that I placed with Sportsbet. For those of you who haven’t read that post I backed Sydney, Hawthorn, West Coast, Fremantle, Essendon and Adelaide to beat Port Power.

You can see the results of my MultiBet there on the right. Yep, unlike most online sports betting sites out there I actually do place bets on various sports games.

You can see at the top of the list that my MultiBet was a total bust. That’s because I backed Sydney to win. Who the hell would have thought that Western Bulldogs would actually beat Sydney. I reckon that would have to be the upset of the AFL round 5 results.

The only other one that I got wrong, and I was probably pretty stupid to pick them, was the Adelaide Crows. Still, I honestly thought that they could have won that, and they could’ve too if they’re kicking accuracy was better. Still, at the end of the day, even though some of the umpiring sucked big time, and I hate to say this, Port Powers was the better team and deserved to win Showdown 38!

What I like about MultiBets is that even though you may lose the main bet you still get something for the rest of your winning bets. So, all in all it wasn’t a total loss as I still won $5.34.

AFL Round 5 Highlights

Interesting highlights that came about in round 5 of the AFL include;

  1. Hawks Hodge To Front Tribunal: That match could cost Hawthorn a couple of good players which would probably affect the outcome of future games.
  2. Talking Points Bulldogs vs Swans: Even the Bulldogs themselves admitted they probably wouldn’t have won if it wasn’t for ‘uncharacteristic Swans mistakes’ that proved costly. Sure they’re going to take the win but they’re not going to let it go to their heads.
  3. Showdown 38 Highlights: Personally I put their loss down to their poor kicking and not using the corridor well enough to get the ball down for some decent scoring shots. Man of the game would have to be Eddie Betts.
  4. Richmond vs Geelong match Preview: I reckon this one was another upset that surprised a lot of punters.

You may notice in my MultiBet that apart from the Adelaide Power game I didn’t back any of the questionable match-ups which is why 4 out of my 6 bets paid off.

Something you may be interested in is that throughout the Adelaide Crows Port Power game I check out SportsBet Cash Out feature and I was able to cash out right up to the beginning of the final quarter.

Showdown 38 Crows Or Power

Before I look at who I think will win Showdown I reckon I should look at how the Crows and Port Power did in round four. If you read my last post on the SportsBet bonus bet offer you know that I backed Port Power to beat Hawthorn. That’s even though the Hawks were the favourite to win.

Port Power vs Hawthorn Results

Port Power Hawks results

I don’t know why I backed Port Power, but I’m glad I did. Perhaps it was because I was using Sportsbet free bet offer and it didn’t really matter if I lost. Either way I backed them and I won. Will they have it in them though to beat the Crows in Showdown 38?

I’ve spoken to several Port Power fans and they’re so jubilant about the win and they are confident they will beat the Crows in this weeks Showdown. I’m not so sure. I watched the Port Power – Hawks game and they dominated in the first half. Lucky for them to because their huge lead was the only thing that saved them. The Hawks came back in the second half. This is even though they had two good player taken off half way through the game due to injuries. Namely, key defender Brian Lake and Paul Puopolo.

Yeah, sure a win is a win but to throw away a commanding lead like that can’t be a good thing. They need to fix their second half game if they’re going to be finals contenders.

Adelaide Crows vs Western Bulldogs Results

Adelaide Crows Western Bulldogs results

I’ll be the first to say it, the Adelaide Crows played like shit. Unless they improve their game they’re not going to win this weeks Showdown. And I’d hate it if they didn’t put Port Power in their place. They came back a little in the final quarter but it was too bloody little to damn late.

So, why did the Crows perform so dismally? There’s no doubt that the Crows were out played but I’m wondering why the hell they were so layback? Especially after playing so well in the first three rounds. Is it because they thought the Western Bulldogs would be a pushover and just weren’t prepared for the type of contest that confronted them? To tell you the truth, I don’t really care what the reason was. As long as they pull their finger out for Showdown 38.

Showdown 38 Go The Crows

Showdown 38

As to who’s going to win the next Showdown? I’m not as arrogant as those Power supporters who are already counting it as a done deal. I know that when it comes to Showdowns it’s anyones game. One thing I do know is that both the Crows and the Power are going for broke, like they do for all Showdowns. That why Showdowns are so popular, and this one won’t be any different.

If you have anything to say about the performance of either Port Power or the Adelaide Crows why not leave a comment. Who do you think will win Showdown 38? Me, I’m putting my money on the Crows.

Adelaide Crows Beat Melbourne At Home

I was lucky enough to score tickets to the Adelaide Crows vs Melbourne game today. I was sitting in the Riverbank stand in Row C. It’s the first time I’ve been to an AFL match at the new Adelaide Oval and it was bloody fantastic. So much better than the old AAMI Stadium. Even the atmosphere as you walk into the stadium was great. So much more atmosphere than I’ve been accustomed to.

The game itself is best described by the Age who called it an Ugly Dirty AFL Match! Even though the stats show that the Crows had more frees, 21 – 15, I reckon they could have easily got way more than that. Those damn umpires just seemed to ignore so many instances that should have resulted in frees.

I didn’t place a bet on any of the games this week because the odds on the games that I was interested in were pretty dismal. I’m not going to bet on anything just for the sake of it either because that doesn’t fit into my responsible gambling regime. I certainly wasn’t going to bet on the Crows as their odd was a low 1.08. I have to admit though that over half way through that first quarter I was wishing that I backed Melbourne whose odds were around 7.50. Luckily they came good shortly after.

Adelaide Crows vs Melbourne Final Scores

Adelaide Crows Melbourne Round 3

As you can see from the image above it wasn’t until the third quarter that Adelaide started to pull away from Melbourne.

I have to admit it’s a lot more exiting to watch and AFL match live than watching it on the TV. not just for the general atmosphere either. Some of the colourful comments coming from the spectators are quite amusing. One has to wonder how many of the umpires ears were burning from all the names they were being called. Even the poor weather wasn’t enough to dampen the excitement. Lucky for me we came prepared and had our plastic ponchos handy. Not like those guys behind us that were waiting for the ‘poncho salesman’ to come around.  :tongue_out:

I took a few photos with my iPhone, and while they looked good when previewing it through the phone in reality the image was pretty poor. The poor lighting didn’t help much. Of the photos I liked this one of Eddie Betts the best.

Eddie Betts Adelaide vs melbourne

As you can see Eddie put a lot of effort into that kick but unfortunately that particular one resulted in a behind. Check out how his leg curves past the knee. Almost looks painful doesn’t it?

Even though I expected the Crows to slaughter Melbourne I’m happy that they won. That’s three in a row,

Next week they’ll be playing the Western Bulldogs and I reckon they’re going to find them a little harder to beat.
