England vs Italy World Cup Bet Of The Week

In last weeks Bet Of The Week I placed a wager on the Adelaide Crows vs Fremantle games. Those of you who read the post know that I placed my bet on the Adelaide Crows to win. The post gave all my reasons for doing so. I knew it was a long shot, seeing as how it paid so well, but I was sure that the Crows had a good chance of winning. Looks like I was wrong and Fremantle was too good for them. If it wasn’t for their inaccuracy they would have absolutely slaughtered the Crows.

That was last week. This week we have a new Bet Of The Week. I thought because the World Cup was upon us I’d choose one of the World Cup matches as this weeks Bet Of The Week. The problem was which one to choose. As it turns out I was asked if I wanted to join a group watching the England vs Italy World Cup game. Sounded like a good idea. As you know it’s a lot more exciting watching any sport when you’re around a group of people. More so than watching it all alone.

England vs Italy World Cup – Who Will Win?

OK guys, you’ve probably worked out by now that a lot of the time I vote with my heart when placing a bet. Being of Italian decent England vs Italy oddscause me to want to back Italy. That is of course unless Italy plays Australia in which case national pride overrules any blood ties. 😉

The question now is who will I use to place my bet. In the Crows Fremantle game I used bet365 so I figured this time around I’d give Sportingbet a go. Too bad I can’t take advantage of their Sportingbet $700 Free Bet Promotion for new members. Unfortunately this offer is not available for certain states in Australia. Remind me to do a post on that later.

Of the two sports betting apps I’m currently using I find the Sportingbet app a lot easier to use. If I can find an app to record my actual movements on the iPhone I’ll do a video to show you just how easy it is to place a bet using the Sportingbet app.

OK, let’s examine the screenshot of my wages that I did manage to take. As you can see I’m sticking to my gambling budget, just like I outlined in my post about the World Cup and responsible gambling. I also placed a Double Chance sports bet. If you’re not sure what a double chance sports bet is you can read about it in my Double Chance explained post.

Sticking to my sports betting budget I split my $10 wage by placing $5 on a double chance on England or Italy to win. So I lose if the game turns out to be a draw. And a straight bet on Italy to win. So if Italy loses I’ll still manage to win something.

Are you going to place a bet on the England vs Italy World Cup game? If so which way are you going?

Double Chance Bet? What Is A Double Chance Bet

Double Chance bet As a new punter I was totally mystified when I saw the “Double Chance” offer on my bet365 app. I took a screen shot of it which you can see there on the right. I checked with Sportingbet and they also offer a double chance bet. I figured I wasn’t the only one that didn’t know what a double chance bet was so I did some research on the subject.

Double Chance Bet Explained

The first thing I noticed from the image on the right is that the odds offered on the double chance bet is lower than a straight out bet. This is because taking a double chance bet on a team results in you winning if your team wins or draws. Your team actually has to lose in order for you to lose the bet.

You would probably take the double chance bet if you were going to bet on the underdogs. This could be because they’re offering better odds or because you believe the bookies actually got it wrong when naming the opposing team as favourites.

Double Chance Bet Example

Lets take another look at that image on the right.

  1. The first option pays if England either wins or draws
  2. If you placed a bet on the second option then you win if Italy either wins or draws.
  3. Betting on the third option means you win if either England Or Italy wins. A draw will result in you losing your bet.

In essence, you’re combining two out of the three possible outcomes, either a win, draw or loss, into one bet. Again, this explains why the odds you get on a double chance bet is a lot lower than betting outright on one of the three outcomes.

Something else I noticed from that screenshot is that the odds on betting on the actual score is a lot better. What sort of wager are you likely to place on this years world cup. Would you try the double chance bet or would you just bet on the outright result? Also, would you take a chance by placing a bet on the actual score?

On the rare chance that I got the explanation all wrong I shot an email to the guys at bet365 and asked them what a double chance bet was. Here is what they had to say.

Dear Mr Pelliccia ,

Thank you for your market query.

The double chance selection are as follows:

– England or Draw (Wins if England win or the game ties – Loses if Italy win)

– Draw or Italy (Wins if the game ties or Italy win – Loses if England win)

– England or Italy (England or Italy win – Loses if the game ties).

Looks like I nailed it huh? 😉

World Cup And Responsible Gambling

With the World Cup fever about to take over the world many will be tempted to gamble beyond their means. With three to four matches occurring every day the temptation to bet on multiple matches can be too much for some. This can be exasperated by the many outcomes you can bet on each individual match as well. Even I was surprised when I learned of the amount of bets you can place on any one game.

World Cup Betting Options

This is where a lot of people can get into trouble. The urge to bet on multiple outcomes may be overpowering to some punters. Here are just a few of the results you can place a bet on.

  • Full Time Result: This is the one that I am going to place my bets on.
  • Double Chance: Didn’t know what the heck this was so I did some research. Read this post for an explanation of a Double Chance wager.
  • Correct Score Betting: Where you can place a wager on the actual score of the game.
  • Half Time/Full Time Results: Bet on the results for half time and full time.
  • Half Time/Full Time Correct Score: Placing a wager on the actual scores for half time and full time.
  • Goal Scorers: You can place a bet on who is going to score a goal.

Of course there are many more options. These are just a few. You can even bet on which team is going to kick off!!

World Cup Responsible Gambling

So, how do you gamble responsibly during the World Cup? Like I’ve mentioned in previous posts you have to stick to your gambling budget. This means if you’re thinking of placing some bets on the World Cup then you may have to forgo placing bets on some of your other favourite sports, like the AFL for example. Either that or you lower the amount of bets you place on those other sports thereby spreading out your wagers.

This even works if you’re planning to place a bet on some of the World Cup betting options I’ve mentioned above. Say you’re budget was $20 for the week then I would pick one or two favourite matches for the week. I would then spread my bets over the betting options that interest me the most.

The thing with sports betting for me is to get the most enjoyment I can from placing those bets. Winning will of course increase my betting pleasure 😉

How To Bet On The World Cup

All of the online sports betting agencies that I represent allow you to place a bet on the World Cup. You’ll find them on the top of the left hand sidebar of this site. Of those I’m going to mention two in this post, Sportingbet and bet365.

World Cup betting with bet365 world cup betting with sportingbet

As you can see from the two screenshots above from the Argentina vs Bosnia game, both bet365 and Sportingbet offer pretty well the same odds although bet365 offers slightly higher odds for a draw. Of the two apps I found Sportingbet to be a lot simpler to understand and use. Although Bet365 offers more betting options which is probably what made it a little harder to understand. I think I’m leaning towards Sportingbet. Which one will you use?
